Concrete Mix for Cold WeatherCold concrete sets more slowly—in some cases much more slowly. With cold concrete, don't use fly ash or slag—they can lead to concrete that won't set until the next day. Use accelerators if you need to move the concrete along. With staining jobs, use non-chloride accelerators. Calcium chloride is a good cheap accelerator and might be useful on some jobs. The two big knocks against calcium chloride are that the chloride component can contribute to steel corrosion and it contributes to efflorescence.
