of Concrete Countertops

Is your home contemporary? Old world? Tuscan? No matter what you style preference, there is one countertop material that will seamlessly blend into any surrounding concrete.

The Ultimate Edge, servicing the Dallas/Fort Worth area, has seen this phenomenon time and again as they see homeowners opting for concrete over tile, slate, granite, and Corian.

There isnt any other material on the market that can take on the personality of the dcor that is around it, says Ultimate Edge owner Cindy Hamm, who along with husband Gayland, take pride in their family-operated business.

Concretes irresistible appeal can be attributed to four things: its versatility, its look of distinction, its natural qualities, and the display of superior craftsmanship.

Hamm says the popularity of concrete countertops especially in neighborhoods like Lake Arlington, Buffalo Creek, Brookhaven, and Valley Ranch has intensified over the past year. One of the many draws of concrete is the wide array of colors and shades available, as well as the numerous edging options.

Concrete can be tinted in a wide variety of colors to match your existing dcor, Hamm said. Many homeowners are choosing a hue called kahlua, Hamm said. And the most requested edge profile is a delicate style called Capstone.

Ive found that many customers love the fact that their countertops will never be like anyone elses, said Hamm. Because they are poured in place, they are one-of-a-kind, said Hamm.

Concrete countertops can be left natural looking to compliment materials like wood, stone, and brick. Or, concrete can be treated with chemical stains, coloring pigments, aggregates, and epoxy coating that allow concrete to mimic popular materials like marble, granite, and limestone.

Concrete is a stone-like material that gives any room natural warmth, said Hamm. It adds richness to both a modern or traditional interior.

The real beauty of using concrete as a material for you countertop is that each casting is unique. Its color, texture and porosity will vary depending on the color, technique, and materials used. They are true works of art, and therefore no two are alike.

Concretes not going to go away, Hamm said.
