Concrete Arts
Hudson, WI
This residential fireplace was created entirely out of concrete. Concrete Arts hand chiseled each pre casted block, totaling around 100 individual blocks. Each block was acid stained with two different colors. The base color was a walnut stain and accented with an Auburn stain to create dimension. These finished decorative concrete blocks were then placed in an ashlar slate pattern on the fireplace surround. To add an eye-catching, decorative feature, lighter colored stones made of the natural concrete mix were then placed on the fireplace to simulate natural limestone.

This residential fireplace was created with a cast in place vertical application using FossilCrete’s vertical mix which was stamped using an Italian slate seamless texture. The vertical overlay was then hand carved to create each individual stone; fallen leaves and branches from the client's backyard were incorporated into the design to give it a more rustic feel. Each stone was hand stained to create a realistic appearance. The clients couldn't believer it wasn't real stone!
