A cast-in-place concrete bartop is the focal point of this steakhouse bar. The final outcome is a continuous rectangular bar that is 33’ long by 10’ wide. On the outside, it has a custom 2 ½” half round bull nose that extends the full 86’ perimeter. The inside edge has 24’ of custom fabricated 1” x 4” stainless drink rails embedded into the concrete. Forming this countertop took two days. The concrete was placed and finished with a hard trowel. After curing the surface was stained with various colors and techniques to give it the final finish. The sealer is epoxy with a urethane topcoat.

This project took over 150 yards of concrete and over 200 yards of dirt were hauled away. Retaining the hillside was the biggest task. The retaining walls, seat walls and stair walls were all colored with an Alcantar Nutmeg Color hardener and were hard troweled for a mottled variegated look. The stair landings, pool deck and walkways were colored with Matcrete’s Phoenix Tan and textured with a Light Italian Slate Texture. A clear release agent was used. For the wall caps, stairs and pool coping Matcrete’s Limestone color hardener was applied. The stairs received a sand washed finish, while the wall caps were hard troweled.

This project consisted of 800 sq. ft. of new concrete poured to extend a 150 sq. ft. existing pad into a beautiful outdoor area. The new section included building 2 sitting walls that followed the curve of the outside edge of the patio. A vine-like design flows throughout the space and wraps around the sitting walls. A black acid stain heavily diluted was used as the base color with a full strength black acid stain on the vines and a slightly diluted black on the leaves. A dark walnut acid stain creates the illusion of shadows underneath the vines and leaves. The patio was sealed with a UV stable solvent-based sealer.

This high school now has a beautiful, low-maintenance floor. The project consisted of placing, finishing, grinding, saw cutting, polishing and coloring. Mix design was crucial for this floor because the client had requested that the aggregate show on the surface. Saw cuts, both structural and decorative, help minimize unwanted cracks.

For this nature center project, over 5,000 sq. ft. of concrete was stamped with Old Granite texture skins and sealed with an acrylic sealer. Decorative sawcut accents add a final touch throughout. There are two cicrular feature areas, one with a stone water feature in the center, and a large patio in back. The water feature inhibited making sawcuts with a jig, so they were done by hand with a hand-held grinder. To meet deadlines, the rear patio was poured and stamped in winter. The concrete was uncovered during the day and blanketed at night to ensure no color disparities. Get this look using Old Granite texture skins and Acrylic sealer.

Creative Construction by Design, a Corp.
Danville, IL
Winner of a 2012 ASCC Decorative Concrete Council Award - First Place Certificate in Multiple Applications.
Access was difficult on this lakeside project, which included retaining walls, a patio and a polished basement floor. The sloping site forced the contractor to pour a majority of the project with a concrete bucket on a skid steer. Additionally, some of the concrete was poured manually with a wheelbarrow and five gallon buckets. Originally, stamped concrete was specified for this patio, but in the end they went with craftsman finished integrally colored flatwork with interweaving bands. The retaining walls were made of vertical concrete with integrally colored wall caps.

Pictured are Lithocrete Sedimentary walls and Lithocrete hand seeded walkways with a decorative waved buff wash. These elements are part of a pedestrian bridge project with a natural systems design theme. The wall and paving together were designed to represent a meandering river’s flow. A variety of rocks, pebbles and aggregates were used in both the walls and paving. The walls were poured in layers with locally harvested rocks and pebbles placed in between each layer.

This garage has it all. It's a five car garage shaped like a horseshoe with an office, lounge, bar, car wash bay and detail area. The floor has a subtle checker flag design that utilized the existing saw cuts. Each bay has four 12-foot squares with a polyaspartic quartz finish from Surf Koat. Diagonal squares were colored to match. One color was a mix of black and gray with gold metallic flakes and the other was a blend of light and dark gray with silver metallic flakes.
