The 2008 Cemstone® Decorative Concrete Awards Winners!

Cemstone is proud to announce the winners of its second annual Decorative Concrete Awards, which recognizes excellence in the design and use of decorative concrete in residential and commercial construction. The winners were selected from nearly 60 contractor entries that featured Cemstone-supplied colored, stamped and/or stained concrete.

The contest, which was independently judged by a panel of Twin Cities- based landscape architects, recognizes creativity and excellence in four categories: Residential Exteriors, Residential Interiors, Commercial Exteriors and Commercial Interiors. View these winning entries to the right.

2008 Cemstone® Decorative Concrete Awards Winners

Residential Exterior Grand Prize Winner: ThemeScapes of Forest Lake, Minn. Color pattern and texture of concrete complemented and enhanced the stone and piers. Concrete helped define the walkway. Excellent attention to detail!
Residential Exterior First Prize: Bulach Custom Rock of Inver Grove Heights, Minn. / Hiew Residence. The concrete patterns and colors set apart the vehicular and pedestrial uses. Scoring is consistent and works its way through the different colors and patterns in a clean and professional way. Ashlar slate pattern and colors complement the house’s brick.
Residential Interior Grand Prize Winner: Foley Construction of Le Sueur, Minn. –Nicolle Diggins Residence. Excellent use of recycled materials. Very sustainable!! Curved back splash is artistic and well done. Color is unusual and impressive.
Residential Interior First Prize Winner: Countryside Construction of Belle Plaine, Minn. – Jay and Becky Reiling Residence. Stain pattern is intriguing. Countertops are the centerpiece, yet complement the room.
Commercial Exterior Grand Prize Winner: ThemeScapes of Forest Lake, Minn. / Kinderberry Hill Day Care. Images display a level of details in the forms and textures of concrete work that illustrates careful craftsmanship and design excellence. The entire playground holds together because of attention to detail: from railings to rock walls.
Commercial Exterior First Prize Winner: Bulach Custom Rock of Inver Grove Heights, Minn. / Minnesota Zoo. Great description of creative approach to constructing the concrete landscape. Innovative technique and effective result. Great overall concept.
Commercial Interior Grand Prize Winner: Nelson Construction Services of Balsam Lake, Wisc. / Balsam Lake Office Building. A good use of colors and textures – and while there is a great deal of diversity in color / texture, it holds together, with tight detailing and clean transitions. Well done!
