Talking with Tim Blankenship about his latest residential project (see his recent project article: Custom Concrete Patio Exudes Simple, Clean Perfection), he mentioned a few products that he prefers. Sawtec (www.sawtec.com): To make the decorative cuts on the Byrd project, CSolutions workers used the Sawtec Crac-Vac. The Saw-Tec Crac-Vac Decorative Kit is designed for saw-cutting artificial grout lines or decorative cuts into stained or overlay-finished decorative concrete floors. The kit includes the saw mounted on a dolly, six feet of hose, a reusable dust collection bag, and a bag shoulder strap. The saw cuts to a depth of 1 1/8 inches and it controls dust during cutting for faster cleanup and to allow other trades to also work in the area. The single-use blankets are very effective with decorative concrete, since it's easy to see if there are dry spots, which can lead to blotches. Tim said, "we really like these blankets." Find Concrete Curing Blankets L.M. Scofield (www.scofield.com): On the Byrd project, CSolutions used three different colors of Scofield's Lithochrome Tintura water-based stains. "We work a lot with Scofield materials," said Blankenship, although he noted that "We have worked hard to be multifaceted so we can work with different manufacturers. We use whatever we need to. I try not to break specs unless I really feel it's necessary." Find Water Based Concrete Stains Ardex (www.ardex.com): Where there's a need for self-leveling toppings, CSolutions uses Ardex, "we are all certified to do Ardex," said Blankenship. Ardex SD-T is a fast-track system for same day concrete floor repairs in industrial and warehouse applications. It is a self-leveling cement topping that uses a proprietary technology that allows foot traffic in as little as 2 hours. Find Interior Overlays & Toppings Lithocrete (www.lithocrete.com): According to their web site, this proprietary system for surface seeding materials "such as granite, glass, marble, limestone, pebbles, shells, and other aggregates, allows designers to select the appropriate colors that fit with the aesthetic requirements of their projects." Blankenship says that although they've done similar things in the past, CSolutions just became a certified installer and "we're excited about getting into it." Find Exposed Aggregate Supplies Sprayers: When I asked Tim if he had a favorite sprayer, he said, "not really," but noted that they have been using "the standard Graco sprayer you can buy at Home Depot. Wherever we go we can pick up the same one or pick up parts. It's more of a convenience thing than a favorite, but convenience is good." CSolutions, Inc.
