Oklahoma Basement Gets Concrete Overhaul as a New Living Space

While homeowners remodel, the basement becomes the new living quarters

Robert & Nola Sidders of Ultimate Renovations sent in these photos of a basement they recently repaired and applied an overlay to in downtown Oklahoma City, OK. The homeowners were renovating the basement so they could live in it while they remodeled their house above. They decided upon 30-inch squares cut in a diagonal pattern with alternating colors and a 6-inch border cut. The total overlay project consisted of 750-square-feet of floor area.

According to Robert, the basement floor was in need of much repair. There were large heaving areas that he had to cut out and replace, along with many deep cracks that needed to be cleaned out and bridged. The process of the overlayment included scarifying the floor and applying a coat of The Stamp Store's spray base before two coats of Slick-Em were used as the final coating before staining. This was done to give the floor a bit of a textured look and feel without using actual texturing skins or stamps.

Brickform stains were used to color the floor. Colors used were Ebony and Amber. For the checkered pattern, the entire floor was stained with Amber (2-1 ratio), and then the alternating dark squares were stained Ebony with 2 coats at a (1-1 ratio) to give them a darker color. Some rooms were stained in lighter hues, and Robert created distinct borders between rooms to accommodate the color changes. Finally, two coats of The Stamp Store's 3000 sealer was used, along with anti-slip.

Another successful project completed by Ultimate Renovations, with a happy customer and a beautiful outcome!
