Creative Ways to Use Decorative Borders

Greetings!

Brick-patterned border One of the easiest and most effective ways to enhance concrete floors or exterior landscaping is with a decorative border. It can be as simple a sawcut  around the perimeter of a concrete slab, or as elaborate as a stamped or stenciled decorative edge accented with color. Some borders are used solely to outline landscaping and define garden beds. Borders are also an effective, inexpensive way to spruce up plain concrete patios, driveways, sidewalks, and floors. See these five ideas for using borders to add flair to the concrete in and around your home.

Use a border to add contrast
Pairing a striking border with a contrasting pattern for the field (inner area) of a concrete sidewalk is an ideal way to create an eye-catching entryway. Use vibrant coloring to add even more drama.

Choose a unique design
Although borders with brick or stone patterns are popular, consider using something out of the ordinary such as a fleur-de-lis pattern or grape-vine border. These elegant designs are a great way to add sophistication to patios in outdoor "rooms."

Frame your landscaping
Use concrete borders to outline your garden beds for a clean, defined look. These decorative borders can also  function as a mowing edge to keep your lawn separate and control grass invasion.

Use borders throughout the interior of a home for a cohesive look
When stenciled borders are used for the  concrete floors throughout a home, extending from the entryway to hallways and into individual rooms, they help define pathways and create a harmonious design scheme.
