Greetings!
More homeowners are giving their garages the respect they deserve. Today, this indispensable shelter for cars, garden equipment and outdoor recreation gear is often attached to the home and getting decorated accordingly as an extension of the living area, from freshly painted walls to upscale concrete floors. One of the most popular options for dressing up garage floors is an epoxy coating because of its resiliency to stains and tire marks, its ability to hide imperfections, and its wide array of design options. These versatile coatings can be applied to concrete floors in other areas as well, especially where durability is important. Learn more about using epoxies to give garage and other floors a decorative makeover.

Decorative Options
with Epoxies
One of the best attributes of an epoxy coating is its ability to be tinted nearly any color, including bright, intense
shades or even with metallic and light-refracting pigments. (See these color samples.) In addition to the colored base, you can add
more pizzazz by broadcasting the epoxy with colored acrylic chips or decorative aggregates, such as colored
quartz. For more ideas, watch the video Epoxy Floor Coating Design Options.

Where to Use Epoxy
Coatings
In addition to garage floors, epoxy coatings are ideal for
concrete floor surfaces that need more chemical or abrasion resistance and
extra protection from heavy foot traffic. Bob Harris of The Decorative Concrete
Institute says popular applications for epoxy coatings include floors in
schools, showrooms, retail facilities, and food preparation areas. See his
video When Should You Use an Epoxy Coating?

Installing an Epoxy
Coating
Epoxies can be installed over most concrete garage or other
types of floors, providing they are properly prepared. (See How to Apply a Garage Floor Coating.)
However, because epoxies are impermeable and can trap moisture, Harris
recommends having your floor tested first for the moisture-vapor emission rate.
