What is happeningThe Concrete Decor Show is March 16-19, 2010, in Phoenix, AZ. Show founder Bent Mikkelsen wanted to be able to leave behind the creative decorative concrete work from the hands-on demonstrations to provide a lasting showcase, instead of having the work jack-hammered out and tossed into the dumpster.

The Big IdeaAfter meeting with The Greater Phoenix Visitors and Convention Bureau, it was determined The Children's Museum of Phoenix could benefit from some colorful and durable decorative concrete work to improve play areas indoors and out.

First UpJust completed are a portion of a stamped concrete courtyard and a sidewalk mural that will help teachers and parents keep children organized when they line up to board and exit buses (see slideshow). Next week a 26' X 16' indoor concrete overlay project will be installed at the museum. During the show, the stamped concrete courtyard will be completed, and a section of the museum's interior floor will be polished. Concrete Network will report on progress as it unfolds.

The Locals Get InvolvedStudents from Franklin Police and Fire High School worked with South Arkansas University Professor Steven Ochs and concrete engraver Gerald Taylor to create a colorful origami-like snake.

Contributed Time and Material in Phase OneIt takes a lot to make an endeavor like this come together. Labor for the first part of the project has been contributed by Bob and Lee Ann Harris, Steven Ochs, Gerald Taylor, Ray Anger, Kevin Boyle, and Local 394 of OPCMIA. Materials have been provided by Border Products, Brickform-a division of Solomon Colors, Inc., Smith Paints, and Hanson Concrete.
