What Are You Committed To?

Some time ago I came across something attributed to a very holy woman of whom I am sure you all know. She no longer graces this Earth, but her life, commitment, and respect of people regardless of their station in life had an impact so great in its global scale that it lingers yet today, even years after her death. The writing is as follows:

  • People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered; Forgive them anyway.
  • If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; Be kind anyway.
  • If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies; Succeed anyway.
  • If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; Be honest and frank anyway.
  • What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight; Build anyway.
  • If you find serenity and happiness, there may be jealousy; Be happy anyway.
  • The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; Do good anyway.
  • Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough; Give the world the best you've got anyway.
  • You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God; It was never between you and them anyway.

Mother Theresa

Regardless of ones religious affiliation and beliefs, the example that this very simple and tiny woman has made for the rest of us is a powerful lesson in "Being" and the choice to be unstoppable, or not. You see Mother Theresa served the poorest of the poor. She did not let leprosy or appalling living and economic conditions stop her from "Being". She was simply committed to respecting and bettering the lives of those she served.

Commitment is all it takes to make a difference in the world; your nation; your state; your city; your neighborhood and your very own home. So check it out. What are you committed to?
