Celebrating Your Accomplishments
Its the end of the yearagain! In
the hectic midst of holiday preparations and professional goals
still to be achieved, often we dont take time to appreciate and
celebrate just how far weve come this year!
How can we tell what weve done? Well, where is your written
business plan? Get it out and take a look! How many goals did your
team meet? How many are on the way to completion? Did you take a
new turn mid-year, making some of the goals obsolete? If so, what
else did you and your team accomplish instead?
It is important to take time to sit down with your team in front
of a large white pad on an easel and list everythingEVERYTHING!your
company accomplished this year. Even if you are feeling like
perhaps you missed the mark or even failed outright, do this with
your team. Perhaps your perception isnt quite accurate, so check
it out!
Dont just list the BIG items list everything! It all adds
up to your success. You just may surprise yourself and be able to
enjoy what your team has done, instead of spending all your time
between now and the end of the year running to catch up with what
you haven't done. When you notice what is missing what wasnt
achieved, just remember what football coach Vince Lombardi said, The
greatest accomplishment is not in never falling, but in rising
again after you fall.
And how about your family?
The end of the year holiday season is a time for reflection and
appreciation. It is a time for appreciating all your loved ones
and communicating that to them. Its a time for forgiveness of
others and of yourself.
Make a plan right now and reserve special times between now and
December 31st for your family to celebrate all you have. What
would it be like to be present to all the goodness around you this
holiday season?
And what about
you? Dont forget to celebrate all you have accomplished
this year. You may not have lost 30 pounds at the gym, but the 15
you did lose and kept off are worth crowing about! You may not
have stuck to your plan to do one activity every week just for
yourself, but dont discount the 37 weeks that you did stick to
your plan. Look and see where did you surpass your greatest
expectations this year?
This holiday season, instead of kicking yourself, give yourself a
big pat on the back and a huge hug. Then go out and hug someone
else.
