Going From Stopped to Unstopped
One doesnt have to look far to find a reason to be stopped these days. There are a multitude of potential stops for any given person on any given day. The ongoing military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan; the upcoming 2nd anniversary of the September 11th attacks; and continued economic jitters are all global examples of potential stops. Then there is your world. What circumstances are getting in the way of your being the leader you are meant to be? Is your business under performing? Are you troubled in your communications with your staff? How are the communications going with your family? These are all examples of issues that could cause you to pause, or even be diverted, from the plans you have for achieving what you say you want. Now, you may be wondering why I even brought these potential stops up. After all, you may not have had war on your mind when you began reading this letter. Yet, I mention these examples for a very specific reason. Fact is that the average "stopped" person does not even know they are stopped! They continue along their daily tasks, doing whatever it is they do, possibly feeling out of sortsthey have a headache, they are sick of paperwork, they are tired, they are "too busy", they feel made wrong, they are making others wrong, without realizing the consequences of not acknowledging those issues that have them in a mental head spin. For instance, have you ever been very suddenly and overly, shall we say, cranky with someone who was anything but deserving of the outburst and almost immediately you step back and wonder, Where in the heck did that come from? Or maybe you are at your desk and turn off the ringer on your phone simply because you are tired of talking to people? These, my friends, are massive red flags of being stopped. So how do you go from Stopped to Unstopped? You must get present to the fact that you are stopped. Recognize the signs! Get into action. Go for a walk, ask for help, revisit your plan! Acknowledge where you are stopped and why and clean up whatever is necessary to move on. Maybe you simply need to get rid of your mind chatter by journaling, clearing or meditating, or do you need to have a straight talk with an employee or loved one? Have you not been your word and need to straighten out your integrity? Have you been unusually distant from those you love and simply are in need of a hug? Remember, if you are making yourself wrong for getting stopped, forgive yourself and move on! At the pace you are running, you dont have time to make yourself wrong, the world will do that for you for free!
