Coloring Techniques
To color the overlay surface, Yoder uses raw mineral pigments mixed with a water-based acrylic sealer. As many as 30 different hues are available to replicate the multi-toned, weathered look of natural stone. The coloring agent can be spray-applied or rubbed onto the surface with a cellulose sponge.
A unique technique we use is to spray the color on the surface and then take a slightly dampened cellulose sponge and dab and rub the surface to produce an antiqued look, says Yoder.
