Concrete Homes Provide More Peace and Quiet

As land has become scarce, more homes are being built in areas previously considered undesirable: near freeways, airports, and railroads. This trend is expected to continue.

A study, "Insulated Concrete Forms for Residential Design and Construction", by Huntsman Chemical, showed a 6" wood stud allowed a Sound Transmission Class (STC) of 37-meaning the audibility of loud speech outside the wall was audible but not intelligible. Arxx Building Products, a vendor of ICF wall systems, tested out at an STC of 50-meaning loud speech outside the wall was inaudible from the inside.
