The balance of the integral colored stampwork was CHROMIX Admixtures in French Gray, stamped with LITHOTEX Pavecrafters Fractured Slate embossing skins with the Deep Charcoal Antiquing Release Agent. In addition, there was also 7,000 sf of stained concrete. The stained concrete was placed without integral color in the fall of 2007 and allowed to cure over the winter. The staining operation began in the spring with the return of temperatures over 60 degrees using multiple colors of LITHOCHROME® Chemstain® Classicincluding Faded Terra Cotta, Antique Amber, Padre Brown and Dark Walnut. Due to the size of this project, the flatwork had to be poured in many stages. The numerous structural elements made it necessary to incorporate borders for expansion joints. Some of the job was poured on engineered pan decks and some on grade. All of the pattern layouts were done in advance incorporating the control joints and expansion joints into the patterns. The control and expansion joints were filled and sanded to match the grouted joints. Forming and finishing the main staircase was particularly challenging as it had close to 1,000 linear feet of cantilevered stair nosing. The color was achieved with three colors of LITHOCHROME® Color Hardener - Weathered Sage, Sandstone Beige and Slate Gray. LITHOTEX® Pavecrafters® Ashler Stone embossing skins were used for the concrete imprinting. The entire project was sealed with CEMENTONE® Clear Sealer.

LITHOCHROME® Tintura™ Stain and LITHOCHROME® Chemstain® Classic were used to achieve deep, rich colors for this Concrete Carpet. The floor was originally painted, so it was decided to ground and polish the floor to 180 grit. After achieving a smooth and fresh palette, a stencil was used and Tintura colors were applied using an HVLP gun and airbrush. Then by using a resist method we sealed the Tintura with SCOFIELD® Selectseal-W™, and then applied Chemstain in Padre Brown and Copper Patina. We then framed it in with a 2" Dark Walnut border in Chemstain. The rest of the floor was stained with the Chemstain using Weathered Bronze, Padre Brown, and Dark Walnut.

A new front entrance was created for this residence using a stone textured border surrounding a field of wood plank textured concrete. The concrete was integrally colored with CHROMIX® Admixtures for Color-Conditioned® Concrete in Stone Gray and the wood planking pattern was hand brushed with several colors of LITHOCHROME® Tintura™ Stain to complement the new front door. Fiber optic concrete lighting was added to the front step to create a really unique look to the entrance. The objective for this residential project was to completely transform the front, side and rear of the home into an incredible outdoor entertainment and living area. We tried to maintain a harmony from the front of the house, all the way around to the back.

Over fifty yards of concrete in footers, steps, walkways and patio made a long hard journey up the hill during the months of construction. Scofield's Tintura Stain, CHROMIX Admixtures, LITHOTEX® Pavecrafters® textures and sealers were used in all of the various techniques.

Pier 86 / Intrepid – Mathews Nielsen Landscape Architects
Mathews Nielsen Landscape Architects New York, NY Mathews Nielsen Landscape Architects New York, NY

Pier 86 was designed to meet the demands of a functional naval pier as well as create a premier public open space serving one of the most visited museums in New York City. Distinctive and durable pavements were key in realizing a striking, versatile destination along this revitalized midtown waterfront. The pattern of the cast-in-place concrete pavement utilizes colors and forms which relate to the dynamic flight deck of the Intrepid. The colors used here in the design were two different shades of gray CHROMIX® Admixtures for Color-Conditioned® Concrete. The dual grays complement each other and offer exceptional contrast. Color matched LITHOCHROME® Colorwax™ ensured that colors were maintained and achieved.
